Stunning holidays in queensland!
Sitting in a secluded spot on the Northeast coast of Australia, Queensland is the most tropical part of the continent of Australasia. Dotted with national parks inland and tropical islands offshore, Queensland is a lush, green paradise, surrounded by white, gleaming beaches and azure waters. It’s home to 5 of Australia’s 11 World Natural Heritage Areas, and a haven for koalas, possums, kangaroos, cockatiels, and falcons!
With the cool, surfing capital city of Brisbane to the south, and quintessentially aboriginal Cairns in the Far North, this Australian state has so much natural wonder and laid-back culture to offer visitors. Its nickname is the Sunshine State for its fantastic climate, with an average of 260 days of sunlight a year, making relaxed beach holidays or outdoor adrenaline adventures equally as fun!
The diversity of Queensland’s terrain is highlighted by places like Undara Volcanic National Park, where you’ll delight in walking through the longest lava tube in Australia, which is a mere 8 million years old. The tropical rainforest at Daintree’s emerald canopy grows right down to the edge of the sea, and visitors can hike through the dense trees or take in this stunning site from the cool blue waters.
Queensland is a nature lover’s utopia, and some of the top attractions here include:
- Head to the Gold Coast south of Brisbane to surf some of the state’s world-class breaks. With over 70 miles of golden sand and the Pacific Ocean bringing the swell, this is the best place on the East coast for breaking the waves.
- Visit world-famous Australia Zoo, owned by Terri, the widow of charismatic Crocodile hunter Steve Irwin. The 700-acre zoo is the largest conservation zoo in the world and is home to 1,200 animals from across the planet, including Steve’s favourite crocodile.
- Want to spend the day in the rainforest? Then take the Kuranda scenic railway through the UNESCO World Heritage Listed Kuranda rainforest. Here you’ll find Australia’s first Butterfly Sanctuary, visit koalas in the wild, have an Australian buffet lunch, and return to nearby Cairns on the fantastic Skyrail Rainforest Cableway.
- Group trips from northerly Port Douglas take you out to the Atherton Tablelands where you can experience a food and wine tasting tour in the outback - a meal like you’ll never have had before!
- A trip to the Sunshine State wouldn’t be complete without visiting the Lone Pine Koala Sanctuary. Hug a koala, hand-feed kangaroos, and hang out in the natural bush setting of the largest koala sanctuary in the world!

THE GREAT BARRIER REEF
Queensland is most famous for its natural offshore landmark, the Great Barrier Reef. Stretching over 2,300 kilometres along the coastline, this is the world’s largest coral reef system, and one of the most visited natural environments on the planet. It’s the largest living thing on Earth, made up from over 600 types of coral, and can be seen from space! Global warming is threatening this living reef, but you can still visit it safely. Take in the spectacular colours by snorkelling the reef, spotting giant clams and turtles below, and maybe even a whale in the distant deep waters!
Cairns is considered the gateway to the Great Barrier Reef, and from here you can take educational trips to learn about the conservation efforts, as well as learning to dive and hire snorkelling equipment to explore this unique and breath-taking underwater world!
