Breath-taking holidays in the Rockies!

The Rocky Mountains, also known as the Rockies, stretches over 3,000 miles from British Columbia in Western Canada and down via five states into New Mexico in the United States. On the Canadian side of the Rockies there are 900 miles of some of the most stunning scenes on the planet. From the turquoise-blue glacial lakes to the dazzling white glaciers themselves, snow-capped peaks which give way to roaring waterfalls and towards vast, meandering rivers, to evergreen valleys full of grizzly bears, elk, mules, and wolverine!

This boundless stretch of phenomenal natural beauty crosses the beautiful Canadian states of British Columbia in the northwest, and neighbouring Alberta. Head to Vancouver to catch the Rocky Mountaineer as it travels across the Canadian Rockies towards Jasper, Banff, and stunning Lake Louise. Marvel at Mount Robson, the highest peak in the Canadian Rockies at 12,900 feet. Take backpacking tours with expert mountain climbers around the challenging Rockwall Trail in Kootenay. Learn to ski in Banff and stay in luxury mountain lodges with stunning views! Canoe across crystal clear glacial lakes at many spots along this striking ridge of tectonic plates, and don’t forget your camera, as you’ll want to capture the immense views that you’ll see at every turn!

Seven parks make up the UNESCO world heritage site that is the Canadian Rockies. Four of these parks are home to the nearby towns that you might like to visit and stay during your Rockies adventure. These parks include:

  • Banff National Park. It’s the oldest National Park in Canada and the third oldest in the world. Banff is well known for being the home of Lake Louise, an incredible glacial lake with striking turquoise waters, one of the most photographed lakes in the world! Banff village itself if also quaint and made up of log cabins and hotels nestled amongst the wildlife. Banff’s hot springs are also a big draw for visitors, so find time to sit in the warm waters while watching the starry skies, with snow-capped mountains all around.
  • Jasper National Park. It’s home to a 142-mile scenic mountain road known as Icefield Parkway, which takes you through the largest icefield in the Rockies. Hike a short way off this road and you reach Bow Glacier, with its spectacular waterfalls. The highlight of your Jasper trip will surely be Athabasca Glacier, whose water never stops moving! Athabasca Falls are also the mightiest in all the Canadian Rockies, and well worth visiting.
  • Yoho National Park. Take a canoe out into the mesmerizingly colourful waters of Emerald Lake and take in the magnificence of the mountain vistas from the water. If you’re feeling adventurous, this is also the perfect spot for Whitewater rafting, as the valley floors give way under the weight of great rivers to form cascading waterfalls among the trees. Horseback riding is also the perfect, leisurely way to take in Yoho’s green surroundings without having to trek too far into the wilderness.
