Awe-inspiring holidays in Japan!
Japan is a surprising place full of both peaceful countryside and chaotic cities, quiet, contemplative landscapes, and bustling streets. Old temples and new skyscrapers dominate the skyline in many of this island cities, with old and new melding to create a diverse and rich cultural experience for all visitors! In fact, there’s so much to take in here that one trip may not be enough, and you’ll definitely want to be coming back for more!
Japan’s culture is all about mindfulness. Ritualistic tea ceremonies can take days, locals and tourists often take hours to lounge in restorative hot springs, and everyone is welcome to take a moment or even an hour at local shrines and temples in some of the most meditative spots in the world.
In contrast, this is also the country of cosplay, arcades, animal cafes, karaoke bars, and bullet trains. There are no half measures in Japan - theme parks and outrageous activity areas are great fun and offer an excellent experience for families. For example, the Harry Potter experience at Universal Studios Japan in Osaka is one of the most visited theme park exhibitions in the world!
Japan is such an amazingly large and diverse country that it’s important when you visit to make sure that your itinerary is full of your favourite spots, such as:
- Tokyo, the gigantic metropolis and one of the most interesting cities in the world. Full of quirky experiences, and amazing foods. If you're lucky you’ll get to watch a sumo wrestling match, with only six held every year. They hold matches in January, May, and September in Tokyo, in Osaka there is a match in March, in Nagoya it’s in July, and in Fukuoka the match is held in November…so plan accordingly!
- Packed with history, important temples in the Higashiyama district and inspiring architecture such as imperial palaces and geisha houses, Kyoto is a fabulous place to visit in Japan, and is consistently voted one of the best cities for visitors in Japan.
- Watch the Nara Deer in the beautiful deer park on the outskirts of Osaka. They are very tame and inquisitive, and happily walk around while you picnic in the park.
- In Nagano you can visit the Jigokudani Snow Monkeys. There is a local park where the monkeys soak in a spring-fed hot tub and, in winter, play in the snow!
- Osaka is the third largest city in Japan and has a rich history dating back over 1500 years. The city is adorned with golden temples, unique boutiques, amazing food stalls, and makes the perfect place to have a night out in the glitz of the city night.

Mount Fuji
The iconic Mount Fuji is a top sightseeing spot. It is an active volcano which last erupted in 1707 and is worshipped as a sacred mountain by the Chinese. It’s also Japan’s highest mountain at 3776 metres tall and is snow-capped in winter and spring. While it’s not advised that you attempt to climb Fuji as it’s a treacherous climb even for the more experienced of
us, you can get great views of it from surrounding towns. Due to it often being shrouded in low lying cloud and mist, it’s best if you leave plenty of time to go back and see this mysterious mountain. Sunrise is when it’s at its best, against a cool pink sky, the perfect photo opportunity.
For a luxurious Mount Fuji experience, head to the hot springs resort of Hakone where you can marvel at this famous majestic mountain while enjoying a natural spa in the springs created by the geothermal heat of the volcano itself
